1The Challenge

This 1890s Victorian terrace in Newton Abbot had original rubber-insulated wiring throughout, presenting significant fire and shock risks. The homeowners wanted a complete rewire without damaging the period features including ornate ceiling roses and dado rails.

2Our Solution

We carefully planned cable routes to minimise disruption to original features. Using surface-mounted trunking in the loft space and discrete channelling behind skirting boards, we installed a completely new 18th Edition compliant system with a 10-way consumer unit featuring full RCBO protection. All original ceiling roses were preserved and re-connected to new circuits.

On-Site Observations

What we found during the job:

Original rubber-insulated cables had degraded to the point where the insulation crumbled when touched
The old rewireable fuse board had been modified over the years with mismatched wire sizes
Earthing to the gas pipe was present but no main earth terminal existed
