1The Challenge

The customer had just purchased a new electric vehicle but their existing consumer unit was an older split-load board with no spare capacity. The garage was 15 metres from the house, requiring a substantial cable run.

2Our Solution

We upgraded the consumer unit to a modern 12-way RCBO board, providing capacity for the EV charger and future-proofing the property. We installed armoured cable from the house to the garage, terminating at an Ohme Home Pro smart charger. The charger was set up with the Ohme app for scheduled charging during off-peak hours.

What we found during the job:

The existing split-load board was a common 2015-era design with only 2 spare ways
Ground conditions were rocky - SWA was run above ground level with UV-resistant clips
WiFi signal in the garage was poor so we tested the Ohme app before leaving
