Bathroom Electrical Installation
Bathrooms are classified as 'special locations' under BS 7671, requiring IP-rated fittings, zone-compliant wiring, and mandatory RCD protection. We handle every aspect safely and to regulation.

Safe Bathroom Electrical Work
Water and electricity don't mix. That's why the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) classify bathrooms as special locations with strict rules on what can be installed and where. Every fitting must have the correct Ingress Protection (IP) rating for its zone, and all circuits must be protected by a 30mA RCD.
Our electricians are experienced in bathroom zone classification and specify the correct IP-rated fittings for each position. We work with bathroom fitters and plumbers to ensure first fix wiring is positioned correctly before tiling begins — saving you costly rework.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you put a normal light in a bathroom?
It depends on the zone. Zone 0 (inside bath/shower) requires IPX7 minimum. Zone 1 (above bath to 2.25m) needs IPX4 minimum. Zone 2 (0.6m beyond Zone 1) needs IPX4. Outside these zones, standard fittings can be used. We assess your bathroom and specify the correct IP-rated fittings for each position.
Do I need an electrician for bathroom electrics?
Yes. Under Part P of the Building Regulations, any new electrical circuit in a bathroom is notifiable work that must be carried out by a registered electrician or inspected by Building Control. As CHAS members, we self-certify all bathroom electrical work.
How much does bathroom electrical installation cost?
A basic bathroom with lighting, extractor fan, and shower circuit typically costs £400-£900. A full bathroom electrical fit-out with underfloor heating, illuminated mirror, heated towel rail, and multiple lighting circuits ranges £900-£2,000. We provide free itemised quotes.
Can you install sockets in a bathroom?
Standard 13A sockets are not permitted in bathrooms under BS 7671. However, shaver sockets with isolating transformers (meeting BS EN 61558-2-5) can be installed in Zone 2 or outside the zones. We install compliant shaver supply units.
