EV Chargepoint Grant — UK 2026 Guide
The EV chargepoint grant contributes up to £350 towards a smart home or workplace charger. This guide covers 2026 eligibility, the workplace scheme, what changed for homeowners, and how to claim through an OZEV-approved installer.
£350 per socket
75% of cost, whichever is lower. Two chargers max per household.
Flats & renters
Residential scheme now restricted to flat owners and tenants.
Workplace too
Businesses can claim up to 40 sockets via the WCS.
Who is eligible in 2026?
- Flat owners living in their own flat with off-street parking.
- Renters in any residential property (with landlord permission).
- Landlords installing chargers in rental properties (separate landlord grant — up to 200 sockets).
- Businesses, charities and public-sector via the Workplace Charging Scheme (up to 40 sockets, £350 each).
Not eligible: homeowners in detached, semi-detached or terraced houses (the original EVHS scheme ended 31 March 2022).
What homeowners can do instead
If you own a house and don't qualify, the typical financial picture still works strongly in your favour:
- Smart EV tariffs (Octopus Intelligent, EDF GoElectric, OVO Charge Anytime) cut overnight charging to 7p/kWh — saving £700–£900/year vs petrol for an average driver.
- Solar diversion chargers (Hypervolt Home 3 Pro, Zappi v2.1) charge free from surplus solar generation.
- VAT at 5% applies to chargers installed alongside qualifying energy-saving materials in many cases.
How to claim the grant
- Confirm eligibility with your installer (we'll do this on the free survey).
- Choose an OZEV-approved smart charger (Hypervolt, Ohme, Zappi, Pod Point, Tesla, Wallbox).
- Provide V5C / lease document, proof of address, and (for flats) tenancy or leasehold proof.
- We submit the OZEV application on your behalf.
- The £350 is deducted directly from your invoice — no waiting for a refund.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the EV chargepoint grant in the UK?
The EV chargepoint grant is an OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) scheme that contributes up to £350 (75% of the cost, capped) towards installing a smart home EV charger. From April 2022 it has been restricted to flat owners/renters, single-use leasehold properties and people in rented accommodation — homeowners in detached, semi-detached or terraced houses are no longer eligible.
Who is eligible for the EV chargepoint grant in 2026?
You can claim if you (a) own and live in a flat, (b) rent a residential property (with landlord permission), or (c) have on-street parking with a cross-pavement solution. The applicant must own or have a 6+ month lease on a qualifying electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle. The charger must be OZEV-approved and installed by an OZEV-authorised installer like Grants Electrical Solutions Ltd.
How much is the EV chargepoint grant worth?
Up to £350 per chargepoint (covering 75% of the purchase and installation cost, whichever is lower). One grant per eligible vehicle, capped at two chargers per household.
Is there an EV charger grant for homeowners?
Not directly — the standard residential grant for owner-occupied houses ended on 31 March 2022. Homeowners in flats are still eligible. If you live in a house, the OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme may apply if you can install at your business premises, and SMETS2 smart tariffs (Octopus Intelligent, EDF GoElectric) typically save £700–£900/year — often more than the grant would have done.
What is the workplace EV charging grant?
The OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) gives businesses up to £350 per socket, capped at 40 sockets per applicant. Open to registered businesses, charities and public-sector organisations. Each charger must be installed by an OZEV-authorised installer and the application is voucher-based — the voucher is presented to the installer who claims the discount on your behalf.
How do I claim the EV chargepoint grant?
You don't — your installer does. We submit the OZEV application on your behalf when we install your home or workplace charger. The grant is deducted directly from your invoice. All you need to provide is your vehicle V5C or lease document, proof of address, and (for flats) evidence of leasehold/tenancy.
Which chargers qualify for the grant?
Only OZEV-approved smart chargers qualify. This includes Hypervolt Home 3 Pro, Ohme Home Pro, Zappi v2.1, Pod Point Solo 3, Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3, Wallbox Pulsar Plus and EO Mini Pro 3. Any charger we recommend will be on the OZEV-approved list.
Can I combine the grant with solar PV?
Yes — many of our customers fit a Hypervolt or Zappi alongside solar PV so the car charges from surplus generation during the day. The grant does not affect your eligibility for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) or any solar incentives.
