Hypervolt vs Ohme — which is best?
Both the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro and Ohme Home Pro are excellent OZEV-approved 7kW smart chargers. They cost within £50 of each other, both work with smart tariffs, both are made in the UK or EU. The right one depends on whether you have solar PV and which app experience you prefer.
Quick verdict
- Choose Hypervolt if you have or plan to install solar PV — it diverts surplus generation directly to the car via an optional CT clamp.
- Choose Ohme if you're tariff-led (Octopus Intelligent, EDF GoElectric) and want the slickest app and on-unit screen.
- Either works for a basic overnight smart-tariff setup — performance on Octopus Intelligent is essentially identical.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hypervolt or Ohme better?
Both are excellent OZEV-approved 7kW smart chargers. Ohme Home Pro is the best choice for tariff-driven savings — its built-in screen and tight Octopus Intelligent integration make scheduling completely automatic. Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is the better choice for solar-PV homes and aesthetics, with full solar diversion via an optional CT clamp and a slimmer brushed-metal design. For pure EV-only use on a smart tariff, Ohme. For solar-plus-EV, Hypervolt.
Which is cheaper, Hypervolt or Ohme?
They are within £50 of each other. As of 2026, our fitted prices in Devon are: Ohme Home Pro 7kW from £1,100 plus VAT, Hypervolt Home 3 Pro 7kW from £1,150 plus VAT. Both prices include up to 10m cable, RCBO protection, surface mount, DNO notification and Building Regulations Part P certification.
Does Ohme have solar diversion?
No — Ohme Home Pro is tariff-led, not solar-led. It will schedule your charge to the cheapest grid windows, which on Octopus Flux can be near-zero, but it does not divert surplus solar generation directly to the car. If you have solar PV and want excess power to charge the car instead of being exported, choose Hypervolt or Zappi.
Does Hypervolt work with Octopus Intelligent?
Yes — Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is fully integrated with Octopus Intelligent Octopus Go. The Octopus app takes over scheduling and you get the 7p/kWh rate during whatever extended off-peak window Octopus assigns to you. Performance is on par with Ohme on the same tariff.
Which has the better app?
Ohme — the screen on the unit itself plus a polished iOS/Android app make day-to-day use effortless, and the tariff dashboard is genuinely useful. Hypervolt's app is good but more functional than friendly. Both let you start/stop, schedule, monitor energy and lock the unit.
Are both Hypervolt and Ohme tethered or untethered?
Both come in either tethered (attached cable, faster to plug in) or untethered (Type 2 socket, neater when not charging) versions. We recommend tethered for everyday use and untethered if appearance matters or you regularly use a granny lead at other locations.
