Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to connect an electric cooker?

Connecting an electric cooker to an existing cooker circuit typically costs from £95 plus VAT. If a new dedicated circuit is needed from the consumer unit (required for most modern cookers above 3kW), costs start from £220 plus VAT including the cooker switch.

Do I need an electrician to connect a cooker?

Yes. Electric cookers draw significant current (typically 30-45A) and must be connected to a dedicated circuit with the correct cable size, fuse rating, and cooker switch. This is notifiable work under Part P Building Regulations.

Can I use a plug for my electric cooker?

Cookers under 3kW (small tabletop models) can use a 13A plug. Most freestanding or built-in cookers exceed 3kW and need a hardwired connection via a cooker switch on a dedicated circuit. We'll advise on exactly what's needed for your model.
