Frequently Asked Questions

What is first fix and second fix electrical work?

First fix happens after the building structure is up but before plastering - it involves running cables through walls, floors, and ceilings, and installing back boxes for sockets and switches. Second fix happens after plastering and decoration, when we install the faceplates, light fittings, consumer unit, and complete final connections and testing.

Should I pre-wire for an EV charger even if I don't have an electric car?

Yes, we strongly recommend it. Installing the cable run during construction costs a fraction of retrofitting later, when walls and drives are finished. With the 2030 petrol/diesel ban approaching, EV charging capability adds value to your property.

What smart home wiring should I consider?

At minimum, we recommend CAT6 data cabling to key rooms, centralised TV/network distribution, and deep back boxes to accommodate smart switches. Depending on your plans, we can also pre-wire for whole-house audio, automated blinds, security systems, and smart lighting control.

Do you work with self-builders?

Absolutely - we work with many self-build projects across Devon. We can get involved from the design stage to advise on socket positions, lighting plans, and smart technology, or join at any point in the build process. We're flexible and used to working around self-builders' schedules.
