Frequently Asked Questions

How much does outdoor lighting installation cost?

Outdoor lighting costs from £95 per light point including supply and installation. A typical garden with pathway lights and feature lighting costs £800-£1,500. Full garden lighting schemes start from £1,500 including design.

Can I install garden lights myself?

Low-voltage (12V) solar lights can be DIY. However, mains-powered (230V) outdoor lighting must be installed by a qualified electrician. It's notifiable work under Part P due to the outdoor location and water exposure risks.

What type of cable is used for garden lighting?

We use steel wire armoured (SWA) cable for outdoor installations. This is buried at least 450mm deep and protected by cable tiles. This ensures long-term safety and durability even if accidentally disturbed.

How do I control outdoor lights?

Options include manual switches, dusk-to-dawn sensors, PIR motion sensors, timers, or smart home integration. We can combine methods, such as sensor-activated security lighting with manually-controlled ambient lighting.

Are LED garden lights worth it?

Absolutely. LED garden lights use 80% less energy than halogen, last 15-25 years, and produce less heat. The energy savings typically pay back the extra cost within 2 years, and LEDs work reliably in cold weather.
